Is Putin strong enough for 2018 re-election?

When CBS aired its interview with the Russian president prior to his UN address, the audience was drawn to Vladimir Putin’s attention to, among other things, the 2018 presidential elections.
Russian presidents are mandated to serve six-year terms since 2012 and Vladimir Putin is entitled for a 2018 re-election.
The Russian strongman told the American network he would follow the cues of international as well as national trends and mindsets in deciding on the re-election.
In face of orchestrated Western sanctions over the issue of Crimea, Vladimir Putin’s favorable poll returns demonstrated an upward trend though the Russian ruble has been down-trending.
The polled contradiction indicated to some extent the hitherto intact strength of Vladimir Putin.
