Is Water From Public Toilets Safe To Drink?

Would you refill your water bottle in a hawker centre toilet?

“Most, if not all Singaporeans right, are aware of the fact that tap water is clean and safe to drink,” said Erny Kartolo, the Co-founder of Drink Wise, Drink Tap campaign. “But the surroundings of the of the tap and the environment in which it’s in, affects their perception of the tap water.”

That may explain why in 2018, Singapore consumed nearly 28 million litres of bottled water – enough to fill 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

#TalkingPoint tests the tap water from places like coffee shop and MRT station toilets. Here’s what we found.
