At least 135 people, including civilians, have been killed in an Islamic State group onslaught in eastern Syria. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ISIL militants stormed the city of Deir Ezzor on Saturday, with several suicide bombers blowing themselves up in government forces’ positions. The Britain-based monitor said 85 civilians were killed in the assault which also claimed the lives of 50 Syrian soldiers and pro-government militiamen. Syria’s state news agency SANA also reported the mass killing, denouncing it as a “massacre”.
