Italian PM vows to resign if constitutional referendum doesn’t pass

Italians go to the polls next Sunday to vote on a controversial constitutional referendum, which has also become a confidence vote for the country’s Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi. If passed, the referendum would drastically curb the role of Italy’s Senate. Renzi has said that the constitutional reform would streamline the government and simplify the legislative process, and has threatened to resign if the referendum does not pass.
