Around 130 migrants have arrived in the Italian port of Lampedusa after being rescued from the southern Mediterranean on Wednesday. They were spotted during joint missions by the Italian Coast Guard and a humanitarian group in Malta called Migrant Offshore Aid Station. The migrants were pulled from a rubber dinghy floating off the Libyan coast, and transferred onto two Italian coast guard vessels, then taken to Lampedusa. More than 40,000 migrants have arrived in Italy by sea this year.
