Japan considers its own sanctions on the DPRK

Japan’s Kyodo News Agency says the Japanese government intends to impose sanctions against the DPRK, following its satellite launch over the weekend. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Japan aims to employ “the most effective measures” to stop the DPRK from conducting more launches in the future. Tokyo could resume some of the sanctions it previously lifted in 2014, after the DPRK agreed to open a new investigation into the fate of the Japanese citizens abducted in the 1970s and 80s.
