Japan restarts nuclear reactor amid nationwide protest

Japan reactivated a nuclear reactor on Tuesday in the Sendai plant in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, at 10:30 a.m. local time Tuesday, making it the first utility in the country to do so after the Fukushima accident in 2011.
The government assured the plant’s safety. But protests still erupted around the country Monday with antinuclear civic groups and private citizens joining.
