Japan “Setsubun” traditions drive away evil spirits for New Year

While Chinese prepare to beat off evil spirits of the Old Year with firecrackers, Japanese rituals involve tossing beans to shouts of “oniwa soto, fukuwa uchi”, which means “Demons out! Luck in!” Japanese folklore believes this action can drive away the evil spirits as demons that linger close to people around the New Year. Take a look!
