Japan to pay South Korea US$9.8 million over sex slave issue

Japan has agreed to pay one billion yen or 9.8 million US dollars settlement to South Korea over the long-standing issue of sex slave or comfort women. Local media reported the settlement will be given to South Korea’s Reconciliation and Healing Foundation by the end of this month at the earliest. Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said he presumed that the funds would go toward medical and nursing care of the victims and their families.
