Japan Upper House may start Security Bill debates on Monday

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the major opposition Democratic Party of Japan agreed on the composition of a special committee that will debate a set of controversial national security bills. With details of the committee now set, the Upper House could kick off deliberations on the bills at a plenary meeting as soon as Monday. The security bills, if passed, would pave the way for Japan’s self-defense forces to fight abroad.
