Japanese Coast Guard requests larger budget to boost security around China’s Diaoyu islands

The Japanese Coast Guard has applied for an increased budget for the 2017 fiscal year. According to Japanese media, the JCG will ask for over two trillion yen (9.8 billion US dollars), a seven percent increase from the 2016 fiscal year. One quarter of that money will be used to patrol waters surrounding China’s Diaoyu islands.
