Japanese PM sends offering to controversial war shrine

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has sent a ritual offering to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine to mark the annual autumn festival. News media said Abe made the “masakaki” tree offering on Monday. The shrine, seen by China and South Korea as a sign of Japan’s past militarism, honors 14 Class-A convicted war criminals from World War Two.
