Japanese ruling party starts talks to extend Abe’s term

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has reportedly started talks over whether to revise internal rules to allow Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to run for a third term in the next LDP presidential race. According to Japanese media, lawmakers proposed to raise the existing term limits or to abolish them entirely at a meeting on Tuesday. Abe has about two years to go until the end of his current term as LDP president.
