Japan’s new security law faces strong public and media opposition

Japan’s new security law has been facing protests from people from all walks of life. There have been continuous demonstrations across the country since last summer. On August 30, around 120,000 people gathered in front of the Japanese parliament. It’s estimated that more than one million people were involved in other protests across the country at the same time. On the night the law took effect, about 40,000 people demonstrated in front of the parliament once again, calling for the Abe administration to abandon the law.
