China’s central government has pledged 160 million yuan, or 24 million US dollars for disaster relief in Jiangsu Province, in response to Thursday’s tornado and hailstorms, which left 98 people dead and injured hundreds more. The money will be used to help resettle residents, provide funeral services, and reconstruct housing. The Ministry of Finance said it would provide further relief funds later if necessary. Meanwhile, one thousand tents and two thousand folding beds have arrived in areas affected by the disaster, and telecommunication companies are continuing to work at full capacity to restore services to every township hit by the tornado.
