Eleven years ago, Dr Dieter Hotzelmann set out to change the way people approach eldercare with his programme Pro Mobil. He believes preventive rehabilitation – which involves exercises that make seniors less frail – is the way to keep them out of hospitals and nursing homes.
Members of national health insurer AOK use his programme for free. In Germany, health insurers have to include prevention as part of their coverage.
