Kenya crane operator’s Chinese story

Henry started his career as a crane operator 10 years ago. Now he works at Berth 19 of Mombasa port , the largest port in east Africa.

During the years working at the port, Henry has witnessed the changes from his tiny cabin less than two square metres in size, high above the berth.

The berth 19 repened after the expansion project undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) in 2013. It has increased the port throughput by 33 percent, consolidating the leading status of Mombasa as well as Kenya in East Africa.

Henry told Xinhua that that many Chinese colleagues has given him guidance, thus he has mastered more knowledge on his work and gained much experience.

According to the officials, the new Berth 19, with 15 acres of stacking yard, provides additional annual capacity of 200,000 TEU and will significantly improve the port’s operational efficiency.
