KMT chairman replaces Hung Hsiu-chu as party’s candidate

Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang party’s chairman and mayor of New Taipei, Eric Chu, announced on Monday that he will run for the island’s leadership election, replacing deputy legislative speaker Hung Hsiu-chu as the party’s candidate. He’s asked for a three-month leave to prepare. The election is slated for January 16.
