12 government organs were honored “Snail Award” in the eastern Chinese city of Taizhou for deficiency in handling their businesses.
It’s the first time such awards have been granted in the city.
The 12 bodies include offices within the city government or township governments that deal with trade and investment, civil affairs, as well as legal issues.
Instead of getting a monetary prize, the government organs will be given a notice of criticism and lose their yearly bonus.
Taizhou is one of few cities in China that has set up such an award.
Officials say the “Snail Award” will be handed out once every quarter, as part of the city’s efforts to improve governance and efficiency.
