A girl lived in a community in Mianyang city in southwest China’s Sichuan Province was almost hit by two steel plates that fell down from the top of an elevator. On December 12, the little girl went home with her grandfather and entered elevator alone while her grandfather left her to pack his bicycle. Just at the moment when she arrived at her family’s floor and stepped out, two steel plates on the top of the elevator weighing 5kg each, suddenly fell just missing her.
China has some 3.6 million elevators in use by the end of last year and the number continues to grow at a rate of 20 percent annually, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.There were 48 accidents last year responsible for the death of 36 people, the regulator said.
