“Living far from parents” blamed for Chinese students bullying in U.S.

Three students from China have been sentenced to years in prison after the U.S. prosecutors said they kidnapped and bullied a Chinese classmate.

The defendants were sentenced to 13, 10 and 6 years behind bars respectively.

Prosecutors said the three took their Chinese peer to a park where she was stripped, beaten, punched, kicked, spat on and burned with cigarettes.

In a statement, one of the three defendants said living so far from her parents played a role in her actions.

She said parents in China are well-meaning and send their kids thousands of miles away with no supervision and too much freedom. She said that is a formula for disaster.
