Los Angeles City Council declares August 24 “Kobe Bryant Day”

The Los Angeles City Council declared August 24 “Kobe Bryant Day” on Wednesday. The Council Chamber was lined with Los Angeles Lakers purple and gold as loyal fans cheered for their idol. Kobe Bryant appeared at the city council’s meeting with his wife and daughters to make the day official.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti thanked Kobe for the contribution he has made to the city in a speech. Kobe called the honor a surreal experience. Retiring at the end of last season, Kobe won five titles with the Lakers, two Finals MVPs, a regular season MVP and was an All-Star 18 times during his career.
