The Russian Arctic National Park released video last week, showing what it believes are the remains of a World War II-era Nazi meteorological station located in Russia’s arctic region Arkhangelsk.
Around 500 artefacts have been unearthed on Alexandra Land since middle of August 2016, including pieces of military uniforms, ammunition, household objects and meteorological equipment.
According to archives, the station was apparently operational from 1942. In 1944, the personnel in the station were allegedly evacuated due to an outbreak of illness after some ate polar bear meat. The station was destroyed in the 1950s.
The findings are now being transported to Arkhangelsk for further examination and a separate exhibition will be organised later this year to show the findings to the public.
