President Nicolas Maduro on May 31 in Caracas decried Secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro for directing foreign intervention in Venezuela.

“And today, Mr. Almagro has presented a document calling for intervention from outside Venezuela. And he wants to apply a pipe dream called Democratic Charter to open the doors for the United States intervention in Venezuela.”

The president made these remarks when delivering a speech to a march of motorcyclists in support of the government.

“Mr. Almagro, tuck his Democratic Charter where it fits. Venezuela should be respected. And in Venezuela, nobody will apply any letter. Call it democratic or whatever. I call for the national rebellion against international threats.”

Last week, Almagro proposed to convene a meeting of the Permanent Council of OAS to discuss the situation in Venezuela, with the so-called Democratic Charter as an instrument.
