Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro made his last appeal to voters in Caracas on December 3, two days ahead of the parliamentary election.
(Soundbite) Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan President
“We need a victory on Sunday to give a lesson to the parasitic bourgeoisie. It would be very sad, very sad, if the people were defeated in the economic war.”
Related to the national vote for the unicameral National Assembly, Maduro called on the general public not to allow the opposition to grab the power and undo the social achievements scored by his United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in the past 15 years.
Soaring inflation and extreme shortage of goods have put the ruling party at disadvantage in the upcoming poll which will elect 167 representatives from the 24 states of the country.
