Major medical appliance producer of Cuba imports materials from China

China has become one of the main suppliers for the Cuban Company of Medical Products, which annually purchases 15 million U.S. dollars of components from China.

“Today we are importing from China tubes and pipes for our production of wheelchairs. These are the fundamental components of the product.”

Located in the outskirts of Havana, the company hires nearly 1,000 people, churning out clinical furniture, wheelchairs and slight panels, among others.

“The quality and price of the Chinese spare parts are accepted and competitive in contrast with the ones from other countries. The impact is the freight charges, for they are shipped from a quite distant market.”

The Cuban Company of Medical Products was inaugurated by then President Fidel Castro in 1988 and has been one of the successful economic entities in the island country.
