Malaysia’s former leader, Mahathir Mohamad, has been seeking to turn voters against the scandal-tainted Prime Minister, Najib Razak, in two by-elections to be contested next week. Mahathir, who led the country for 22 years until his retirement in 2003, quit the United Malays National Organization earlier this year. Najib denies any wrongdoing, and has seen his popularity sink to all-time lows because of a multi-billion dollar graft scandal and reports that around one billion dollars were deposited in his personal bank account.
