Malaysia’s Halal vaccine worries: surge in number of disease cases concern

Malaysia has recently seen a worrying increase in cases of diseases that had virtually disappeared in the country, including several deaths from diphtheria. Contributing to the problem is the growing trend of some parents, from Muslim families in particular, who refuse to have their children vaccinated. Many are swayed by religious arguments, others by questionable scientific evidence found online. It’s a toxic and potentially fatal combination, says Rian Maelzer, as he reports from Kuala Lumpur.
