Malaysia’s National Day marred by rallies

Malaysia held activities on Monday to celebrate the country’s independence anniversary, despite massive anti-government rallies over the weekend. The government reclaimed the streets of the capital Kuala Lumpur, staging a National Day parade attended by thousands to commemorate the country’s 58th independence from British rule. Prime minister Najib said he would not resign, and urged Malaysians to unite to resolve their problems.
