Mali hotel crisis: Gunmen hold 170 people hostage, 80 are freed later

Men armed have stormed a luxury hotel full of foreigners in Mali’s capital Bamako, taking 170 people hostage. The Brussels-based Rezidor Hotel group says the assailants have “locked in” 140 guests and 30 employees. Military officials say at least three people have been killed. UN officials say two Malian citizens and a Frenchman are among the fatalities. Witnesses say Malian security services are cleaning the hotel floor by floor. Attackers are still in the hotel, and sporadic gunfire were heard frm time to time. Local media say at least 80 hostages have been freed.
