A man was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Tuesday after taking three packs of gum in a robbery at a store in Shanghai four months ago.
Surveillance footage shows a man, identified as Yang, holding threatening the store’s cashier with a knife, but instead of handing over money tamely, the cashier tried to talk some sense to him, while pushing the panic button to quietly call the police. Then, a customer walked into the store, giving the cashier the chance to run into an office nearby to ask colleagues for help. The robber, feeling slightly resigned, took three packs of gum and left, but was caught by police a few hours later.
