A man in Yunnan Province encountered a starving bear cub on the street, which he incorrectly assumed to be a homeless young wolf dog, and decided to take it back home. As the “dog” ate more and more, and grew bigger and bigger, he found something wasn’t quite right.
Authorities were called, and they identified the “wolf dog” was actually a black bear, a nationally protected animal species in China. The bear will now be sent to the Dehongzhou Wildlife Shelter Center in western Yunnan and will later be released into the wild after it learns to survive in the tough natural conditions on its own.
