Maria Sharapova banned for two years for failed drugs test but will appeal

Tennis star Maria Sharapova was suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Wednesday for a failed drug test at January’s Australian Open. ITF said the Sharapova’s ban commenced on January 26, 2016, due to her violation over the WADA anti-doping rule, according to a statement on its website. Sharapova said that she “cannot accept” the “unfairly harsh” ban and will appeal the decision.
