For years, the Mekong River has served as a large conduit for trade. But it’s also been a hotbed of trafficking and crime. Chinese border police and their counterparts from Laos, Myanmar and Thailand have stepped up security, conducting more than 40 joint patrols along the river since 2011. The monthly practice has improved safety along the river. CCTV’s Meng Qingsheng reports from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province on how China is now working closer with its partner countries.
