Merkel ‘appalled’ by suffering in Syria

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara on reducing the influx of refugees to Europe. At a joint press conference after the meeting, Merkel said she was appalled by the suffering of Syrians who are fleeing the city of Aleppo. She said a UN Security Council resolution had explicitly forbidden any attacks on the civilian population.
