Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on Germany to maintain a close relationship with his country amid global conflicts and concerns.
That’s according to Germany’s state news agency DPA on Saturday.
The message was sent in a telegram to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Joachim Gauck.
It came on the country’s 25th anniversary of Germany’s reunification.
Putin held talks with Merkel in Paris on Friday during a summit with leaders of France, Germany and Ukraine on the crises in Ukraine and Syria.
Ahead of the talks, Merkel stressed Thursday the importance of tackling the roots of year’s huge refugee flow to Europe.
On Russia, Merkel said quote: “We have all known for years that there can only be a solution with Russia, and not against Russia.”
