Michel Platini quits after ban appeal fails

In a statement released on Monday, suspended European football chief Michel Platini is resigning as head of UEFA after losing an appeal against a previous six-year ban over ethics violations. The Frenchman, who was once one of the finest players of his generation, said he would continue the fight to clear his name. He was suspended last year after he and the ousted world soccer chief Sepp Blatter were found guilty in ethics breaches over “disloyal payment” –a scandal that engulfed FIFA.
