Miners trapped after accident in Russia’s Arctic pronounced dead

A total of 36 people are believed to have died in coal mine blasts in Russia’s northern Komi republic. Twenty-six miners were trapped on Thursday after a sudden leak of methane gas caused two blasts, which killed four people. Emergency services halted rescue efforts on Sunday, saying that the miners would have had no chance of surviving given the conditions after a third blast killed six more people.
