“Monkey King” patrols pedestrian street in SW China

People in different regions of China are celebrating the Chinese lunar New Year – the Year of Monkey – in different ways.

Security personnel have dressed themselves in Monkey King costumes in southwest China.

Security staff in Monkey King costume are patrolling a pedestrian street in southwestern China’s Chongqing Municipality.

Wearing monkey face masks, they direct traffic and help tourists.

“I’ve never seen this. It’s very interesting to see security guards in Monkey King costumes in the Year of Monkey.”

“They are very eye-catching. It’s hard to imagine the security staff in such dresses. It’s so creative.”

“I’m dressed in the Monkey King costume to create a festive atmosphere for tourists. Wish everybody a happy Year of Monkey.”

The Chinese Lunar New Year starts on Monday. Celebrations will last until the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the first month.
