Myanmar’s new government is taking steps to boost foreign direct investment to support national economic growth. The country has received 9.5 billion US dollars in foreign investment during the last fiscal year of 2015-2016. Ongoing structural constraints, short-term exchange rate pressures, rising inflation and a rocky political transition have led to a deceleration in new investments. The new government has reformed Myanmar Investment Commission to scrutinize new investments.
