China’s weather observatory issued a yellow alert for smog that will cover the northern regions from Sunday evening to Monday evening.
On Monday, moderate smog is expected to hit Beijing, Tianjin, parts of the neighboring provinces of Hebei, Henan and Shandong, as well as parts of eastern Jiangsu Province.
The smog will be dispersed by a cold front on Thursday, which prompted the Beijing government to issue a yellow alert, the third-highest level.
The government has vowed effective measures to fight air pollution.
High polluting sectors will be monitored closely, including construction sites and outdoor activities in all elementary and middle schools, kindergartens and extracurricular training schools.
Agencies or personnel who fail to initiate emergency response plan in a timely manner will be punished.
