Nearly 100 dead in Myanmar landslide

A landslide near a jade mine in northern Myanmar has killed 94 people.

The collapse occurred Saturday evening in the community of Hpakant in the Kachin state.

Most of the victims were villagers living nearby who were sifting through the debris in a mountain of displaced earth, in the hope of finding fragments of jade to sell.

The state of Kachin produces some of the best jade in the world.
