Nepal extends Everest climbing permits after quakes

Nepal extended climbing permits of hundreds of mountaineers forced to abandon their Mount Everest expedition after last year’s massive earthquake in a bid to lure tourists back to the Himalayas. Tourism officials say the government has decided to extend the permits for two years. Nearly 9,000 people were killed in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake followed by a powerful aftershock that devastated parts of Nepal last April and May.
