Yudu county in Jiangxi Province was the starting point of the Long March, an epic strategic retreat by the Red Army from 1934 to 1936 under pressure from the Kuomintang. Eighty years on from this major event in the Chinese Civil War and Yudu county has been swept by massive change. In recent years, most locals have migrated away to seek employment in big cities in the southern Guangdong Province, but now a growing number of people are coming back to Yudu to start their own businesses. From manufacturing to building brands, these entrepreneurs know they face their own arduous journey, but as the spirit of the Long March is passed from generation to generation, they have the confidence to march forward.
