New York City’s symbolic yellow cab is getting a facelift.
The Nissan NV200, known as “Taxi of Tommorrow”, has been preparing for years to occupy the Big Apple, with a few hundred already on the streets.
Superior to its predecessor, the van has charging ports for riders and a large skylight roof.
Most cab owners will be required to switch to the new model next time they replace their vehicles.
New York’s taxi industry is facing mounting challeges from app-based ride-sharing services like Uber.
And this move is widely expected to attract some riders back.
