A new Gallup poll of America’s racial attitudes has found a majority of whites and a considerable number of African Americans think race relations in the United States have reached a new low point – despite the very obvious fact that for nearly 8 years, the United States has had its first black president. When he was elected, Barack Obama promised ‘hope’. There was a deep sense of optimism that race relations would improve, especially amongst blacks. But they have not.
