The fourth Nuclear Security Summit has concluded in Washington DC, with a focus of “locking down atomic materials to guard against nuclear terrorism”. In a joint communiqué announced by participating leaders, nuclear threat was called “one of the greatest challenges to international security”. Chinese President Xi Jinping said new threats and challenges keep emerging in the field of security. He made five pledges to make sure that terrorists cannot get their hands on the materials needed to build the ultimate weapon. That includes improved nuclear security capacity, and the promotion of using less highly enriched uranium. Jessica Stone has more.
