Oil spill tests prove environmental risks of polar expeditions

Countries and companies are increasingly venturing into the Arctic and Antarctic, and the rapid melting of ice caused by global warming has opened up new shipping routes and access to potential oil, gas and mineral sources. However, the risk of an environmental catastrophe has skyrocketed. Icebreaker ship Ahto sets off at sunrise from northern Finland, carrying a team to conduct an experiment on the effects an oil spill would have underneath the arctic ice.
