One dead, 35 rescued off Italian coast after traffickers threw 40 Somalis into water

Italian authorities recovered the body of a migrant woman on Monday and rescued 35 migrants along the Puglia coast in southern Italy.

According to first investigations, migrant traffickers threw a group of at least 40 Somali migrants into the water during the night.

Reports say a man and a woman found in the water and suffering hypothermia were rushed to hospital, while three of four women are still missing.

Monday’s death has been the latest of migrant tragedies that led to nearly 4,000 migrants and refugees losing their lives in the attempt to cross the Mediterranean trying to reach Europe since 2015.
