Following uproar by the opposition in Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon session on Tuesday (July 21), Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “Government has placed on record that request for discussion on Sushma Swaraj can be placed (on regional issues). We proposed that the External Affairs Minister will join the discussion and keep her stand across. But it is clear opposition does not want a discussion.” “Discussion can be held, Sushmaji can begin the discussion or give explanation at the end. Even that is not acceptable to the opposition,” he added. “All opposition wants is to not let the session run. They raise an issue, want to discuss but do not take part in the discussion. We offered to adjourn the session until after lunch. Govt is publicly declaring that we are ready for discussion at any time.” he noted.
